Brainchild of LaDonna Redmond and Wil Seegars, Graffiti and Grub began as a location that served the community heathy food. Graffiti and Grub has evolved into a forum about just, healthy and fair food access for the hip hop generation. Graffiti and Grub highlights local community-based solutions with global perspectives that support communities everywhere access healthy food. We reject the phase “food desert”. Mainly because there is nothing wrong with deserts per se. Deserts are a part of vibrant eco-system and not an indication of lack. What is wrong is suggestng that all that is needed in some communities is a major chain grocery store. Major chain grocery stores will not fix the public health issues in communities lacking access to healthy food options. Solutions to the issues must come from communities faced with those issues. Recognizing that any approach must address the economic, social and environmental factors of those communities. Graffiti and Grub will focus on developing a healthy fair and just food systems. Pushing forward the question: “What will it take?” In addition to supporting fresh food choices owned by community, Graffiti and Grub will serve community by providing information about health, wellness, food culture, land reform, farm labor, and urban agriculture and spiritual/sacred activism. Graffiti and Grub recognizes that Spirit is behind all that is. To that end, we encourage activists to stay connected to the divine and to reflect daily on the Goodness that remains in the world!

Hi, Maggie. We are a store, and are located on the southeast side of the intersection of 59th and wentworth (east of the dan ryan expressway). We are just south of the train tracks that cross over the street.
Best, Ayana
Hi – I am an urban planning student and doing a project that is looking at green industries, job training, economic development, and food deserts. Your store is a model and an inspiration! I was wondering if anyone had the time to talk with me more about how your store is operated.
Best, Thea

I applaud your efforts. It is time that we take ahold of our nutritional needs and become our own suppliers.
